Amputation surgery, while performed quite frequently throughout the world, is highly variable in both content and intensity. Patient outcomes are strongly dependent upon the expertise and experience of the surgeon. Many amputations, however, are performed by surgeons with limited exposure to this specialty. Attention to small details can make great strides toward a successful rehabilitation and prosthetic fitting.
The Limb Loss Education content presented here provides easy access for surgeons to locate information, review recent advancements, and re-familiarize themselves with the critical aspects of amputation surgery in order to improve patient outcomes.

This content was created by the Amputation Surgery Education Center (ASEC). ASEC was an effort led by the Prosthetics Research Study (Seattle, WA) in collaboration with Otto Bock (Minneapolis, MN), the Amputee Coalition of America, the University of Washington Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (Seattle, WA), and Harborview Medical Center (Seattle, WA).
The Amputation Surgery Education Center was created with the intent to provide a free, centralized, and comprehensive amputation surgery resource for surgeons around the world.
