The ream and run technique is a method for treating arthritis of the shoulder in individuals who wish to avoid the risks of plastic socket loosening and wear. In this technique the glenoid bone is reamed to the proper shape and orientation. After surgery the metal ball molds the healing response to a smooth biological joint surface. No polyethlene or bone cement is used in this procedure, removing the common causes of failure in total shoulder replacement.
