Care of spinal conditions has become increasingly complex and confusing. Classification systems can help in understanding the subject matter at hand, but have exploded in numbers and complexity. Attempts at extracting classifications of spinal disorders are cumbersome and require careful study of numerous reference books without achieving a comprehensive overview in the end. This one of a kind reference text summarizes over 185 spine classification or severity measures with standardized art work, provides ratings and critical evaluations of pertinent strengths and weaknesses in a concise and systematic fashion. Chapman is Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He is also employed as a spine service faculty member at Puget Sound Veterans Administration Medical Center in Seattle. He has written two books, The Spine Manual and Spinal Cord Injuries, and has been on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's advisory panel for spinal devices since 1997. Chapman received his bachelor of science degree from the Universitaet Regensburg in Regensburg, Germany, and earned his medical degree from Technische Universitaet Muenchen in Munich, Germany. An interview with David Barei, M.D., FRCSC
Dr. Barei was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Despite living in the Automotive Capital of Canada, he pursued higher education north of Windsor, first studying in the biologic sciences at The University of Western Ontario in London. Subsequent to this, he pursued his medical degree and orthopedic residency in the Nation’s Capital of Ottawa, Ontario.
