An interview with Dan L. Stamper PA-C

I grew up in a farming community located 45 miles north of Malibu in southern California. After high school, I went to work with my father as an ironworker.  Two years later, I joined the US Army and was trained as a combat medic.  I graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine (MEDEX Northwest) in 2001.  I joined the orthopedic team at the University of Washington in 2003.

What do you most enjoy about your work?

I enjoy taking the time necessary to address the needs the patient.  One of the most fulfilling aspects of job is to see someone come into clinic with a real problem and after working with them through a course of treatment options, whether they are surgical or non-surgical, see them leave with a positive outcome.

I also enjoy the growth I see in every resident, PA student, and medical student that rotates through our service.

What is your treatment philosophy?

As a healthcare provider, it is important I address each patient individually and to develop a plan that leads to the best outcome for their specific problem.

What are your interests outside of medicine?

I enjoy spending time with my family and watching my children grow.  I also love traveling and fishing.

What is the focus of your teaching efforts?

My focus of teaching is to make sure that every resident, PA student, or medical student that passes through our rotation becomes a better provider due to the experience they have gained by the time spent with us.

What do your most recent research efforts focus on?

Currently I am working on a project with Dr. Seth Leopold based on the outcomes of MIS knee replacements.

My long term goal is focused on the utilization of the experiences of the elderly to enhance the experience of secondary education.

What is the focus of your clinical efforts?

My clinical focus is fairly broad but my main area of practice is hip and knee arthritis.
