What
do you most enjoy about your work?
I
love to see people get better and see their change in outlook. I love to take care of challenging problems
and see a positive outcome.
What
is your treatment philosophy?
Treat every patient as if it was a family member that you loved and
cared for. Spend time to talk to people
and don’t rush things.
What
are your interests outside of medicine?
I love to travel and explore the world,
I love helping out with third world issues, I enjoy running, biking, basketball, and
volleyball, I love to read. I am committed to third world medical
missions and hope to eventually spend a significant part of my career overseas
in Africa.
What
is the focus of your teaching efforts?
I think every resident is teachable and just
needs time and patience and can master surgery.
I like to emphasize the complete care of the patient and try to stress
the importance of spending time to talk to patients and families and explain
what is going on. I think most
physicians do not spend enough time talking to patients and their
families.
What
do your most recent research efforts focus on?
Most of my research has dealt with bone morphogenic proteins,
bisphosphonates and the interaction of the two on fusion and fracture
healing.
What
is the focus of your clinical efforts?
My
clinical focus is fairly broad but my main area of practice is traumatic and
degenerative spine conditions. I also end
up doing a fair bit of trauma and general orthopedics as well though which
hopefully will keep me well rounded.
