Transmetatarsal Amputation Surgical Outline (.pdf)

This is a 49 year old man who stepped on a small explosive device and sustatined a blast injury to the left forefoot. He has had previous debridement and irrigation to remove the most damaged tissue and contamination. Our goal is to provide a transverse amputation with uniform contour to best reproduce the cascading shape normally seen at the level of MT heads.

The most important goal is to shorten the bones to provide good soft tissue padding. Soft tissue padding is more important than the length of the bones.
